Kidoz Montessori
An AMI-affiliated Children’s House in Chennai. Founder member of The Montessori Collective.
About the school
Kidoz Montessori is a small AMI-affiliated Children’s House in Chennai, founded by Darshan Mutha and led day to day by AMI-trained directresses. The school holds a complete Montessori environment for the 3–6 age range, with the four classical areas — Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Mathematics — alongside Cultural studies (geography, biology, art and music).
The work cycle is three hours, every morning, five days a week. The community is genuinely mixed-age: three- and four- and five-year-olds in the same prepared environment, learning from each other as much as from the adults. The directress works through observation and individual presentations, not through whole-class instruction.
What a day looks like
- 8:30 · Arrival and settling. Children enter the prepared environment, greet the directress, and begin work of their own choosing.
- 8:45–11:45 · The uninterrupted work cycle. Three hours of self-chosen, self-paced work with the materials. Snack is available within the cycle, not interrupting it.
- 11:45 · Outdoor time and lunch.
- 12:30 · Group song, story, departure.
The directress
The lead directress holds an AMI 3–6 diploma and is supported by a trained classroom assistant. Both are present in the environment every day. The directress is the person guiding the room — not a figurehead.
Materials and environment
The classroom holds a complete set of authentic Montessori materials for the 3–6 age range, on open low shelving in the Montessori sequence. The space is child-scaled. The children prepare their own snacks, care for the plants, and look after the environment together.
How Collective membership works for this school
Kidoz Montessori is a founder member of The Montessori Collective, which means the school will be observed against the Collective’s Mark on the same terms as every later applicant, with no founder exemption. The accreditation observation will take place once the practice rubric is signed off by the founding group.
